The course was abuzz this morning as day one at the Boeing Classic was met with a lot of anticipation by pros, fans, and staff alike. An Emirates Boeing 777 started us off with an amazing flyover at 11:20am, Kids Day events were a hit in the event tent, and the pros began teeing off at 11:30 to start the most exciting day of the event thus far.

The estimated 25,000 fans in attendance were treated to great weather and even better golf as they walked around the course to follow their favorite pros.

From the Canyon Club to the 19th hole or a spot in the grass, fans had a great time watching the action unfold today.

Bart Bryant sits atop the leaderboard, with other fan favorites such as Fred Couples (-3, T7), Bernhard Langer (-4, T4) Tom Lehman (-3, T7) not too far behind him.

Today’s standings are sure to set up an exciting round for tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s tee times begin at 10:00am, click here for the full list of pairings, which includes Fred Couples, John Cook and Tom Lehman teeing off at 11:40am. We hope to see you for Round Two of the Boeing Classic!

A good portion of our 1000+ volunteers have been with us from the very beginning of the Boeing Classic in 2006. One of these nine year veterans is Jim Sapienza, a Standard Bearer who shared with us a bit about his experience at the Boeing Classic.

When asked what keeps him coming back to volunteer, Jim stated “I love the venue, the weather, the views, the outdoor beauty. I love to work Day One...for the feeling of hope and anticipation that pervades the course.” Jim has even shared his volunteer experience with his son Jenner, inviting him to assist him as a Standard Bearer, saying that that experience was the best day of his son’s summer vacation.

“When I walk inside the ropes as a standard bearer, I can feel the energy and intense focus and concentration of these elite golfers. It’s a pure rush, every year.” Thank you to Jim and all of our volunteers who return year after year, and if this is your first year we thank you as well. The Boeing Classic would not be the same without you.
