1992: THE YEAR THE MASTERS CAME TO SEATTLE

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of Fred Couples' Miracle at Rae's Creek, when his tee shot on No. 12 landed short of the green and improbably stayed on the embankment, giving him the opportunity to get up-and-down for par on his way to his first Green Jacket.

What happened in that final round in 1992  cemented Couples' status as a local legend and is a top Masters memory for fans in the Northwest.

Couples reflects on the biggest win of his career and much more in this article in the Augusta Chronicle.

In addition to his 1992 win, Fred Couples has 10 career top-10 finishes at the Masters. He will tee off at 10:20am with 2011 British Open winner Darren Clarke and Ryo Ishikawa.

A two-time Masters Champion (1984, 1995), Ben Crenshaw has also finished runner-up twice (1976, 1983) and third two times (1989, 1991). His 41st appearance at the Masters will start with a 5:34am tee time.

Winner of the 1985 and 1993 Masters, Bernhard Langer was forced to miss the 2011 event due to an injury, marking his first absence from Augusta since 1983. The 2010 Boeing Classic Champion makes his Masters return at 9:36am alongside Jason Dufner and Charles Howell.

The first British player to win the Masters, Sandy Lyle claimed the Green Jacket in 1988 by one shot over Mark Calcavecchia. Watch Lyle begin his 31st Masters appearance at 8:18am.

A native of Augusta, Larry Mize won the 1987 Masters with a memorable flourish, chipping in from 140 feet on No. 11, the second playoff hole, to beat Greg Norman. At 5:12am on Thursday he will tee off in his 29th appearance at the Masters.

Mark O’Meara won the 1998 Masters and British Open at age 41, becoming the oldest player to win two major titles in the same year. Look for O’Meara in the 8:08 am tee time with Chez Reavie and Martin Laird.

Winner of the 1982 Masters, Craig Stadler defeated Dan Pohl on the first playoff hole, the first time in Tournament history a playoff lasted just one hole. Stadler will make his 36th appearance in the Masters with the first group teeing off at 4:50am.

Two-time Masters Champion Tom Watson (1977 and 1981) also finished either second or tied for second three additional times. His T18 finish in 2010 was his best performance since finishing fourth in 1997. Watson will tee off Thursday at 6:40am.

Ian Woosnam held off Jose Maria Olazabal and Tom Watson to win the 1991 Masters. His 25th appearance at Augusta begins at 8:30am alongside Edoardo Molinari and Kevin Chappell.
